It’s her little joke –
every round is stroke –
the way she hits that ball
you wouldn’t know she’s had two
bionic man, quadruple
by-passed, defibrillated, has me
in stitches
at 80, his game’s
got more heart
than mine
then, on the 13th,
seasoned traveller
confides myeloma’s no
handicap to chipping
away at the children’s
inheritance
golf’s putting
this stupid game
in perspective
but it ain’t no Sunday
drive

I hadn’t pictured you as a golfer
he, he – I don’t much picture myself as one either, Nursemyra (and with it being 80% mental, that’s probably the reason for the appalling state of my game at the moment)
me too! ^
It’s funny how we construct an image of others, Habiba – how often do we conjure up a picture of a person from their phone voice, only to be completely surprised at how different they are from what we imagined? π
Hahaha – clever play on words π and lovely, optimistic poem,
especially like stanza with
‘chipping
away at the childrenβs
inheritance’
Good timing this one, as my Dad is in hospital recovering from a hip replacement operation – I was calling him the 6 million dollar man π but that might be an overcalculation of the cost. Good one bluebee.
Thanks, Gabrielle π – your Dad sounds like he is also a real survivor, from your comments on some of your very first posts that I read – hip replacements are also ubiquitous in the golfing community (and not just in the elderly), so all being equal, your Dad should be kicking butt again in no time π
As Myra says, realising you are a golfer is quite a surprise. Watch out for those ‘roos!
I have a very healthy respect for ‘roos, Cin π
Very observant of you, Bb. Hobbies and interests can put things into perspective. Also stops you from dwelling on illness which can be a healing in itself.
That’s so true about hobbies, Adeeyoyo. The people I have met playing golf are truly some of the most inspirational, and in particular the older players are huge fun to be with because generally in spite of their challenges they have nothing to prove and don’t give a rat’s π – hope you are getting stronger daily
Oh Dear, I’ve never ‘golfed’ in my life,.. Unless a video game counts?.. π I was quite good at it actually, but lost my temper on a few occasions…. I bet it was nothing like the real thing though bb, as you describe it so well, Do you use a golf cart?.. now that appeals so much,.. (tally ho!! wrong sport I know.. π ) xPenx
ha,ha – if you lost your temper playing video golf, Pen, then I definitely don’t recommend the real thing…sometimes those tally-ho hunting dogs would come in handy to find the ball! π
To answer your question – I never use a cart unless the course requires it because I enjoy getting out and walking in the sunshine
I got quite good while rushing to the nineteenth π
ha, ha – always something to look forward to, Jan, even if one has a bad game π
