Very sad to hear what has happened to Sandra Bland. So young and a personable young woman. Interesting haiku. Sometimes the world is a sad place.
It was so unnecessary, Mabel. She should not have been arrested.
Very sad.
Heartbreaking, Laz.
When personal authority becomes more important than human respect…then these types of things happen and will continue to happen…sadly.
They keep on happening. Where is the thought in these people of authority to look inside themselves before they react, particularly in a non-life-threatening situation?
This was awful. So very sad…
It is just heartbreaking.
It’s really heartbreaking – I didn’t realise until this year, how much things haven’t changed over there 😦
It’s mind blowing, Gabe.
Tragic. Something was and is very rotten in that State.
For sure – and it continues.
The US is just crazy with this kind of attack at the moment … I fail to understand 😦
Me too, Geoff.
Me too. And I’m an American.
From your link, this commentary on being a black woman in the US knocks me over
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/25/opinion/on-the-death-of-sandra-bland-and-our-vulnerable-bodies.html?_r=0
I cannot imagine what living with this sort of constant threat in normal daily life must be like – “as a black woman in America, I do not feel alive. I feel like I am not yet dead” – truly appalling.
It should never have happened. It makes me crazy.
Me too.
I watch in sadness these types of things happening with such alarming regularity in your country. This recently really got my attention: http://news.yahoo.com/lawsuit-cops-put-black-woman-223206953.html
It seems as if there is little progress being made in either making these officers face some type of punishment for what they do, or education so that they stop doing this.
Hi Jo – the story at your link shows how backward and insular many of these cops are – so education is certainly part of eradicating such entrenched racism.
(PS I live in Australia :-)).

ignorance and fear twists rights
into knotted hate.
In Canada we have the growing issue over carding.

That is a very disturbing – I thought this is something that happened in apartheid-era South Africa, not Canada.
