So, Dawkins,
BASE-jumper of rationalism,
ice-climber of atheism,
big-wave rider ofย naturalism,
I wonder…
do you ever
scale the heights of spontaneous belly laughs?
bungee-jump the bridges of self-deprecating chuckles?
deep-dive the murky depths of self-doubt?
or has your personal evolution
yet to take you that far?

Bwahahahaha! I love this – brilliant. This needs to be published.
๐ thanks, Gabrielle
Yeah…like that’s going to happen! most of those kind crack a smile and it might just cause their whole head to break!
I think the essence of any human is in their sense of humour ๐ Thanks, 2zpoint

Hello, Bluebee. Thank you for your comment on my poem.
I like your Dawkins poem, too.
I took my boys to hear him speak a few weeks ago at the Woodstock literary festival….

Thanks so much Monica – nice of you to visit and comment ๐
Very nice…I love the questions without answers, the way you put the metaphor in…My favorite lines are:
scale the heights of spontaneous belly laughs?
bungee-jump the bridges of self-deprecating chuckles?
deep-dive the murky depths of self-doubt?
or has your personal evolution
yet to take you that far?
This poem just says it all. I’ve wondered the same thing about some people but in much less poetic terms.
Thanks, Coin & Feather for taking time to give me such great feedback. My inspiration for this poem came from an interview I saw ages ago where old Dawko got quite snippy and completely failed to see the humour in being asked (all entirely in jest, of course) what his star sign was. So, he revealed quite a lot about himself in that single moment, I thought. BB.
Humility and the ability to laugh at ourselves- without these qualities, what kind of people do we become? I sure don’t want to find out for myself.
I couldn’t agree more 4minutewriter. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. :-). bb
