Excellent poem – the rhythm is perfect for such a topic (like whispering, in a way).As Julian Assange said recently in the media – the best way to keep a secret is to not have it in the first place π
Thanks, Selma – it becomes interesting when the other person doesn’t realize that their secret actually prejudices you in some way – but once we hear it, we are bound not to tell – one of those confounding moral dilemmas
I once told someone a personal secret, she told many and I never tell any anymore, for what is a secret but something not to be shared?…I learned my lesson.
Good point bb, xPenx
Thanks, Pen – that’s an awful betrayal of trust you experienced. I don’t have too many secrets of my own (of any consequence anyway) but whichever way you look at them, they are a burden which is probably why people feel the need to share them with someone – and the fact that many can’t keep secrets they are told is probably why the http://www.postsecret.com/ site has been such a success
The same is true of one’s troubles – as they are shared so is the burden, BB.
Perhaps the secret of counselling is not to let the burden stick
A fine poem.
John
Smooth. Agree ‘another heart’s forever troubled’. Is that friendship?!
I think secrets shared between friends are part of friendship, but perhaps we are not always aware of the effects they can have on the other

Thanks, Gabe – I saw JA saying that on TV the other night – whenever I see him now I think of you, ha,ha
haha – me and Julian π
JA better not leak that one – we don’t want Shirl to get wind of it, ha,ha π
Yes. The burden of secrets. Once someone hands you one to keep in your personal ‘vault’ you are no longer free. I really like this a lot, BeeBlu.

Oh my gosh, isn’t that the truth. Phew!
Well done.

Seems it’s a universal one π Thanks, Jamie
We don’t always realise what we’re taking on, do we?
That’s for sure, Tilly
I love “your secretβs shared,
the burdenβs doubled,
another heartβs forever troubled.
Must write it large and stick it to the fridge.
The nature of the beast, Kate – once heard, it cannot be erased
Nicely delivered. The burden of caring and sharing π
Thanks, Jan – it goes with the territory of friendship, doesn’t it?

That is so true, John. And sound advice.
Thanks for your comment.

A troubled heart no longer free – we feel that burden, Bluebee.
It’s a never-ending balancing act, Monica – writing helps restore the balance π
