Don Ritchie, The Angel of The Gap, has passed away
Repost
Angel of The Gap
He looks out at the sparkling sea
and drinks his morning cup of tea
But there’s a shadow to his left,
the darkness of a soul distressed
He knows now he must move with haste
to stop a life from going to waste
“This time, this one, perhaps,” he thinks,
“maybe, I ‘ll pull back from the brink”
The Angel of The Gap, at dawn,
heads out once more across his lawn
to offer balm, a light to see
a way out from their misery,
to coax them not to end it all
and save them from that fatal fall

“Never be afraid to speak to those who you feel are in need.
Always remember the power of the simple smile, a helping hand, a listening ear and a kind word.”
Don Ritchie, OAM
a life well-lived to have touched so many at their darkest time 🙂
A perfect example of one person making a difference
What a wonderful man – a true hero – and your poem is a great tribute. Let’s hope someone continues his mission.
I think it took a lot of courage to do what he did, Gabe. ‘”true hero” – you’re right – ‘hero’ is such a misused term these days, but not in Don’s case.
Wonderful poem, B. He was truly inspirational.
He was, Mark. Thanks.
What an amazing man. I think he really was an angel brought to earth. Not an easy thing to do. To save people in their darkest hour is so heroic. I am inspired by him!
Me too, Selma – he had the courage of his convictions to go out and try to make a difference even if he didn’t always succeed.
I have been educated today, BB. I had never heard of the Angel of the Gap.
Even though I went to Aus twice – Sydney once.
Thank you
John
An ordinary man who made a huge difference to many people and their loved ones, John. The world needs more Don Ritchies.
Loved the poem, BB.
Beautiful flow.
Like John, I’d not hear of the Angel of the Gap before today.
Thanks.
BTW: WP has provided a quick fix to change default settings on comment threads:
His actions demonstrate the extraordinary power of a kind word and a smile, Nancy.
Thanks for the WP info – fixed!
Vale Don
Someone I would have loved to have met, Nursemyra
No doubt he arrived to an angel’s welcome. I have the feeling he’s still busy looking out for people.
That is a wonderful thought, Monica 🙂
Sad… RIP Don!
Yes, Elizabeth. A remarkable human being 🙂
